This cute but overly flawed film revisits the lovable furry friends of Dave Seville (played by Jason Lee of My Name is Earl, looking stylish and more sophisticated without his mustache) in a new envisioning of how the trio came to be. Lee's acting is the stand-out here, and though the chipmunks are adorable and full of life, they can't carry the film. All of the facets of the original Chipmunks are here - the trio's personalized shirts, Simon's glasses, and the movie even gives reference to how "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late) came to be written - which is good for those who grew up with the television show.
But some questionable acting from Cameron Richardson (who did come into her own on Harper's Island) and a script that leaves a lot to be desired in terms of dialogue undercuts some of the adult enjoyment of the rodents' adventure. Younger children will have a blast with the wit of the 'munks and the original songs have been updated to hip-hop/pop fare to appeal to the new audience. And if you enjoy Jason Lee, you'll most likely get a kick out of his antics and his spot-on cry of "AAAAALVIIIIIIN!" Yet there's a good deal missing from the plot to engage an older audience; the move to incorporate gags for a more mature mindset has been left out, leaving in its place a mediocre romance that doesn't go very far and a villain that's nauseatingly realistic in his big-spending tendencies.

Alvin movie is so cute I watched this movie next to my son in our room and my son was totally happy watching the different kind of animals the movie had because my son love the aimals.
I really love this American comedy film, I think that the old Alvin and the Chipmunks was better, but thione is spectacular and Jason Lee as David "Dave" Seville had an excellent performance!!!

The film received generally negative reviews from film critics. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 27% of 104 critics have given the film a positive review, with a rating average of 4.4 out of 10.it was not a good movie but my children enjoyed it, that's the important !
